(Hanoi=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Jin-hyung = The death toll from a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that recently struck off the southern coast of the Philippines has risen to 61 dead and 40 missing. The seabed in the affected area has also risen up to 2 meters due to the earthquake, exposing parts of it above water.
The Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources announced on the 14th (local time) that land uplift occurred in some coastal areas of Sarangani and Davao Oriental provinces on Mindanao Island, close to the earthquake's epicenter.
The department stated that the seabed, which was previously submerged, has risen up to 2 meters, and that an investigation team dispatched to the site confirmed that "a wide coastline, coral reefs, and seagrass beds have been exposed (above water)."
Photos released by the department show corals spread out above the water across a large area, with dead marine life scattered around.
As a result, the department reported that the coastline has been deformed in some areas, with the shoreline shifting by up to approximately 200 meters from its original position.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PhiVolcs) explained that this phenomenon occurred due to the movement of the Cotabato Trench, located in the vicinity of the earthquake's epicenter.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced that as of now, 61 people have died, 40 are missing, and 1,403 have been injured in the strong earthquake that struck the southern coast of Mindanao Island on the 8th.
Additionally, over 173,000 households, affecting more than 724,000 people, were impacted. Approximately 9,900 houses were completely destroyed, and another 54,000 were damaged.
Furthermore, a total of 725 infrastructure facilities were damaged, resulting in losses of approximately 1 billion Philippine pesos (about 25.1 billion Korean won).
The Philippine government stated that it is providing approximately 67.6 million Philippine pesos (about 1.69 billion Korean won) in financial aid to affected households and is making all-out efforts to restore damaged infrastructure to deliver relief goods to residents in the affected areas.
Latest Information on Tourist Visa Extension Fees
If you extend for the first time after the initial 30 days online, you'll be charged the Express Fee again. I ended up paying 4070.

When I applied for a two-month extension, the total cost including the ACR fee was 5,570 pesos.
From now on, it seems I'll only need to pay 1930 pesos every two months. If you want it processed quickly, it's 2930 pesos.

It's not as expensive as I thought. Residents of Angeles can handle this at Marquee Mall.

My car wouldn't start, so I went to Coa Motors to replace the battery, and it cost 10,200 pesos.
The price was almost double what I expected. I did some online searching and found out there's a more expensive battery model.
The official online price is 8,700 pesos.
Korean batteries are supposedly 7,000-8,000 pesos, but they didn't fit.

Where to extend tourist visa in Angeles City & cost for a second 2-month extension
It's located in the corner of the 1st-floor entrance of Metro Supermarket on the 1st floor of Angeles Marquee Mall.
The security guard kindly helped me fill out the form, so I gave him a 100 peso tip and a 3-liter bottle of soda as a gift.
It's 5,570 pesos for 2 months, including the ICARD fee.
I didn't apply for the Express service to save money, so I have to go back again in a week.
But it turned out to be cheaper than I expected, and I'm worried I might have missed something.

For the site to expand, eventually
For a Philippine information site to expand, it's crucial to include not only fundamental information like real estate, exchange rates, and economic data, but also practical tips for living there, such as information on monthly rent, how to find a maid, tips for hiring staff, and how to find a shop. I believe entertainment is also an indispensable part of this. Without it, the site would be like a steamed bun without the filling. Ultimately, I think there will be limitations in acquiring members. This also applies to the utilization of cryptocurrency... There needs to be a lot of information and posts about entertainment. I'm curious if there are any plans or directions you're considering. There's still plenty of time, so I'm wondering about the general direction.
Between Desire and Class.
This February, while exploring the slums surrounding the Abakan River, the poverty I witnessed was so graphic that I returned to Candipallas, cranked up the air conditioning, and after pulling a can of Coke from the refrigerator, I pondered deeply.
Isn't this a situation that calls for an immediate revolution?
While the poverty of the slum dwellers is so severe, how extravagant is the Instagram feed of a senator's wife, and why is it so unnecessarily ostentatious?
In reality, the outbreak of revolution is more closely related to the price of bread than to a dictator's tyranny or the corruption of the ruling class.
The Arab Spring revolutions that swept across the Middle East in the early 2010s also had soaring bread prices as a backdrop.
Humans are selfish creatures, and it's when the price of bread they eat rises, rather than for political justification or ideology, that they are more likely to take to the streets. Noble concepts like ideology, fairness, and corruption are only things that can be considered once one's stomach is full.
From my perspective as a foreigner, the Philippines, which seems to have settled into a feudal class society, is currently experiencing soaring prices across the board. However, to prevent a revolution at all costs, the price of bread must be controlled, and upon closer inspection, the price is remarkably stable.
This is a bakery near my friend's house. It's next to Janas Burger.
Due to the nature of the Philippines, bakeries in the poor residential areas that spring up immediately outside of high-income housing complexes also sell Pandesal.
Pandesal is the national bread of the Philippines, meaning "salt bread."
It's common for Filipinos to start their morning with two or three of these breads and coffee. A single Pandesal costs 3 pesos, which is about 70 won.
Since a Filipino's daily earnings are around 500 pesos, or about 12,000 to 13,000 won, if they only work and eat Pandesal, they won't starve to death at least.
I felt a mix of fear and admiration at the creation of such an intricate social system that, while squeezing every last peso from the poor, ensures they won't starve to death as long as they work.
Of course, since they import flour, they will stabilize the price of flour by lowering tariffs, or in the worst case, by releasing government reserves or providing subsidies.
Next is rice. It usually costs about 60 pesos, or 1,500 won, per kilogram. This is enough for 5-6 servings if you cook rice.
The Philippines has a rice culture, not a side dish culture.
In other words, for the poor, a typical meal consists of eating two bowls of rice in Korea with just one piece of chicken.
Even with soaring rice prices, if you consider cooking at home, a meal with one piece of chicken and a portion of rice doesn't exceed 1,000 won. As long as they can earn minimum wage, they won't starve to death.
A haircut near Janas Burger, where my friend often goes, costs 2,500 won (100 pesos). However,

There's a store in Clark called 'G-Mart' run by Koreans.
What's great about this store is that they sell items nearing their expiration date at a 30-50% discount. Whenever I hear about it, I often stop by after work to clear out snacks for the kids.
This time, I saw they were selling a fatigue recovery drink called 'Taurine' for 17 pesos. Since I love Bacchus, I grabbed 10 bottles.
After trying it, I have to say it doesn't quite compare to Bacchus cans, but it's great for the price.
If there are any left tomorrow, I plan to buy them all!

Nintendo DS...
Released in 2004, it's an old gaming console that's over 20 years old now.
When I went to the Philippines, I dusted off this old thing that had been gathering dust in a corner of my house and took it with me.
When my eyes met the DS in the drawer, it was as if it spoke to me like a person: "It's been a while, Master. Has the time finally come when you need me again? If you just wipe off this dust, I can still run perfectly. Can I experience the exciting world of dreams and adventures like back then? I'm so happy. Please don't leave me in the dark drawer anymore." It felt like it was saying that to me.
With tears in my eyes, I promised myself I would never neglect you again, put it in my bag, and went to the Philippines.
The reason I brought it was simple: the restaurant service in the Philippines is incredibly slow. It takes at least 30 minutes to get your food after ordering, so I thought, "What can I do to kill time?" and decided to bring this. It's also small enough to fit in my pocket...
But there was an unexpected problem. The DS is a mega-bestseller, having sold over 100 million units worldwide. Plus, it's an old model that's over 20 years old... Back then, there was a huge craze for the DS in Korea too. But was it not released in the Philippines? Or do they just not know about it at all?
While eating at SM Mall of Asia and killing time after ordering, I turned on my DS and started playing. Suddenly, I felt self-conscious and looked around. About a dozen kids had gathered around me. Unable to bear the pressure, I put the game console back in my bag, lowered my head, and prayed for the kids to disappear.
Another day, while eating at a canteen above a Jollibee, I made eye contact with the restaurant owner's daughter. Remembering the incident at Mall of Asia, I took out my DS and started playing. The daughter soon approached me to watch. Is she not wary?
You know this?
No.
Why are you looking?
Because it's interesting.
This? You've never seen anything like it?
Uh-huh.
I thought, "Maybe it's because it's a poor country..." Just as I was about to get lost in thought, about ten more kids, who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, gathered around to watch. The pressure suddenly mounted, so I quickly finished my meal, fled to Candipulhas, and then I thought:
Is this really such an amazing thing? Can I become popular just by having this? Am I the main character?
I can buy this for 50,000 won on Karrot Market...
Is that 50,000 won price tag too high a barrier for them?
Maybe it's because they're kids... Let's ask the adults too.
The women were also very amazed.
Well... it's a kaleidoscope, and this is the Philippines.
Best interior among JTVs located in Balibago
I remember it was originally run by Chinese people, was it the same place?
It's a decent JTV, but I felt it was too harsh to deduct a point just because the karaoke machine didn't have the songs I wanted to sing, so I'm giving it 5 stars.
But it seemed like there were two types of menus...

Big news
The main setting for the new Virtua Fighter 6 appears to be the Philippines, specifically the Chinatown area of Binondo.
It's been over 20 years since Virtua Fighter 5, and Sega, which has long ceded its throne in 3D fighting games to Tekken, is releasing a new installment after a 20-year hiatus, with renewed determination.
The graphics are already at a level indistinguishable from reality. NVIDIA Chairman Jensen Huang, having been helped by Sega to avoid bankruptcy in the past, is said to be repaying that favor and debt by providing strong graphical technology support and funding from NVIDIA, promising graphics that will be on a different level compared to contemporary games.
I myself switched to Tekken after playing Virtua Fighter up to part 3. I remember being amazed by the graphics of Virtua Fighter 2 and 3, which surpassed the standards of their respective eras upon release. Especially with part 3, the graphics were so superior to competing games that I couldn't take my eyes off it, and I recall wondering if it was even possible.
In the photo, you can see jeepneys and tricycles in the distance. The video shows battles set against a backdrop that looks like a slum in the Philippines. It seems like players will be exploring Chinatown to uncover secrets.
The location featured in the video feels like it absolutely must exist somewhere in the Philippines, and it's exactly my kind of place. If it exists, I really want to visit.

This was the first place I visited with my friend who picked me up when I went to Angeles in 2019. I had been singing its praises, wanting to go to Don King even before I arrived.
It was a Korean-style Western-style pork cutlet. Delicious, cheap, and generous portions. At the time, it was around 230 pesos, and that was even after a price increase, but the portions were still huge. The taste was so good, it could rival Korean Western-style restaurants. My friend told me to eat quickly, and I asked why. He said he only had a short break for lunch and had to get back to work. I understood, and after quickly finishing my meal, my friend asked if I wanted to go anywhere else before taking me home. I told him to drop me off at SM and then head back to work.
My friend used his phone to mark his home on Google Maps for me, dropped me off at SM in a hurry, and went back to work, telling me to meet up after he got off. I played games at World of Fun and ate Shawarma Shack.
I walked to the location my friend had marked on Google Maps, intending to head home.
Later, my friend was very surprised when I told him I walked there. I wondered why he was so surprised, but when we drove there later, I realized how far it was and was surprised myself that I had walked that distance. I was that excited back then.
I believe it has since closed down.
If a restaurant with this level of quality can go out of business, it made me realize how difficult it must be to survive in business in Angeles.
