Big news
The main setting for the new Virtua Fighter 6 appears to be the Philippines, specifically the Chinatown area of Binondo.
It's been over 20 years since Virtua Fighter 5, and Sega, which has long ceded its throne in 3D fighting games to Tekken, is releasing a new installment after a 20-year hiatus, with renewed determination.
The graphics are already at a level indistinguishable from reality. NVIDIA Chairman Jensen Huang, having been helped by Sega to avoid bankruptcy in the past, is said to be repaying that favor and debt by providing strong graphical technology support and funding from NVIDIA, promising graphics that will be on a different level compared to contemporary games.
I myself switched to Tekken after playing Virtua Fighter up to part 3. I remember being amazed by the graphics of Virtua Fighter 2 and 3, which surpassed the standards of their respective eras upon release. Especially with part 3, the graphics were so superior to competing games that I couldn't take my eyes off it, and I recall wondering if it was even possible.
In the photo, you can see jeepneys and tricycles in the distance. The video shows battles set against a backdrop that looks like a slum in the Philippines. It seems like players will be exploring Chinatown to uncover secrets.
The location featured in the video feels like it absolutely must exist somewhere in the Philippines, and it's exactly my kind of place. If it exists, I really want to visit.
