2 American sex offenders denied entry at NAIA, Mactan airport

📌 On August 20, a 53-year-old American man with a record of child sex offenses was denied entry and sent back at NAIA Terminal 3.
Four days earlier on August 16, a 57-year-old American man with a record of child-related crimes was blocked from entering at Mactan-Cebu International Airport for the same reason.


■ Details of the Incident
· August 20, NAIA Terminal 3: Arrived on a United Airlines flight from San Francisco. It was confirmed that he was convicted in the United States in 2006 for sexual assault and habitual abuse against a 14-year-old child.
· August 16, Mactan-Cebu International Airport: Arrived on an EVA Air flight from Taipei. It was confirmed that he was convicted in the United States in 2005 for child-related crimes.
· Both individuals were denied entry under Philippine immigration laws that bar the entry of "foreign nationals posing a risk to the public interest."

■ Bureau of Immigration's Stance
· As part of the Bureau's child protection campaign "#ShieldKids," foreign nationals with records of child sex offenses are being blocked from entry right at the airports.
· Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Viado stated, "The Philippines will not be a safe haven for foreign nationals with child sex offense records," adding that information sharing with overseas law enforcement agencies will continue.

■ Notice for Expats and Travelers
· The Philippine Bureau of Immigration exchanges information with overseas law enforcement agencies to check criminal records during the immigration clearance stage. If a record is confirmed, individuals can be immediately sent back from the airport.
