Turning a good attitude into a learning moment
Charge the mound!
Jokes aside, I like that the dad followed up with positive reinforcement after he said it. As an adult it's obvious that listing the good things about a kid's behavior is positive, but a young child hears it not as a summary but as 'this is what I want you to do,' and can take it as criticism. We struggled with this when our kid was little. The kid thought we were telling them to do what they had just done, which caused frustration and friction. It made us give positive feedback more clearly. That goes for feedback in general.
Could you give some examples? I give my kids positive feedback like the dad in the video, and I'd like to know what difference you're talking about.
Basically, you speak plainly. Adults unconsciously use hints and roundabout phrasing, so get in the habit of pointing to exactly what they just did, like 'Thank you for doing that' or 'I really liked how you handled that.' Just be straightforward. Did they say thank you without being told? 'Hey, you said thank you just now even though I didn't say anything. Good job. That's awesome.'
"We got pushed around by them in the first half..." 😂😂😂
Is this attitude good enough for you, you rascal?
That was a full swing too. Get back in the box with a good attitude, the count is 0-1.
The pitcher is ejected!
He deserved it!
