Safety Notice Regarding Incidents Such as Overseas Kidnappings
The Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) has recently reported incidents of kidnapping involving individuals posing as police officers to conduct surprise inspections and detentions. They have provided the following prevention guidelines to ensure your safety.
Given the recent series of kidnapping cases targeting our citizens, we urge you to refer to the AKG’s prevention materials below and take extra precautions to protect yourself from such crimes.
<Safety Guidelines>
- Avoid disclosing personal information, such as your home address, financial details, or business dealings.
- Share your real-time location with family and acquaintances.
- Refrain from resisting or provoking the perpetrator.
- If someone claiming to be a police officer demands that you accompany them, politely ask for their name, rank, and station, and request to see a formal Warrant of Arrest.
- State that you will comply only after speaking with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines, and immediately report the situation to the embassy’s emergency hotline.
Additionally, please be diligent in managing your personal belongings, avoid carrying large amounts of cash or valuables (such as expensive handbags or clutches) when going out, and carefully check your surroundings for anyone approaching when parking or stopping your vehicle.
In the event of an emergency or crime, move to a safe location immediately and report the incident to the local police and the embassy.
