Sabang Beach, Philippines in 2026 — Getting There, Water Taxi, Diving, and Rising Nightlife Prices

In one line
Phil PD, a scuba instructor with 16 years of experience, returns to Sabang Beach on Mindoro Island after 8 years and covers the route, the water taxi boarding process, how the beach has changed, how diving here differs from other areas, and how bar prices have risen.

💡 Key takeaways

[Getting there]
• Drive about 2 hours from Manila, then take a ferry or water taxi from Batangas port.
• With lots of gear or a big group you can book a special boat; in that case you board at a place called 'Belverabe' instead of Batangas port.
• The host says the water taxi took about 20 minutes, and in a comment reply he said 20–30 minutes one way. The old wooden bangka used to take about 1.5 hours.
• To board the water taxi you must show ID (a photo is taken for safety) and wear a life jacket.
• He says travelers from Korea can catch it right after their flight arrives.

[How the beach has changed]
• The beach, once full of gravel, sand and trash, has been cleaned up and the road redone.
• There's now a basketball court, street vendors, franchise coffee shops and resort-style beachfront restaurants.
• He says the dive shops and back alleys still have the same atmosphere.

[Diving]
• Unlike Anilao, Cebu or Boracay, where you spend hours on a boat, the host says in Sabang you can rest in your room or stroll after breakfast and go diving right away.
• About 5 minutes from waking up to diving, and another 5 minutes to a bar — a very compact layout.

[Nightlife prices — the host's account]
• On his first visit in 2006 there were only 3–4 bars and the bar fine was under 2,000 pesos.
• The bar fine went from 1,500 to 2,000, 3,000, 4,000 and is now 5,000 pesos.
• Some large bars hold shows every evening; the show dancers reportedly cost over 7,000 pesos.
• His comparison: Angeles about 5,000–6,000 pesos, Korean-style KTVs in Manila from 6,000–8,000+ pesos, so Sabang is a bit cheaper.
• He says the bar fine system is well organized and easy for first-timers.

[Korean-friendly facilities and a warning]
• There are many Korean-friendly facilities such as Korean-style karaoke and 7-Eleven.
• His advice as an instructor: if you have a morning deep dive or a pre-breakfast dive the next day, drink in moderation — overindulgence and safe diving don't mix.

A post after a long time. I went diving last week too. One reason I go to Anilao instead of Sabang is Sabang's 'night diving' 😅 My favorite, Verde, is closer from Anilao too. And it's hard to get back by boat when the weather is really bad 😂

Sabang's pros and cons depend on the person. There's not much to see or do, so you walk between diving and bar hopping — no transport costs. Restaurants are all similar, so the food gets boring. Bar fines are a bit cheaper, but there's a reason: the quality is terrible.
