Man, when you say AI data center, you'd never think of putting it in the Philippines. Electricity is expensive and unreliable there. But for the US companies supplying the computers and chips, selling to other countries' governments that aren't that smart is lucrative.

Please, anything but that.

Pax Silica benefits the Philippines not only because it would be a key hub in an alternative supply chain that bypasses China, but also because it gets direct access to that supply chain. If the Philippines backs out, Vietnam or Indonesia will gladly take that role, and the Philippines gets left behind again. The people rejecting this don't understand the concept of a value proposition. It's also overhyped. It's important, but it's still just one site, basically like an economic zone such as the ones in Batangas or Cebu. This one site won't magically industrialize the Philippines, but it would definitely make things a lot easier if talent could stay in the country instead of immediately looking for jobs abroad. Alternative supply chain aside, jobs are the most important thing here.
