"Dugo-Dugo" Phone Scam in Pasig — Housemaid Tricked Into Handing Over 3.06 Million Pesos Worth of Belongings
📌 At around 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, at a home in Barangay Ugong, Pasig City, Metro Manila, a housemaid who was fooled by a phone call from someone impersonating her employer handed over 3,065,000 pesos worth of luxury watches, wallets, gold jewelry, and cash to a delivery rider. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is investigating it as a so-called "dugo-dugo" scam.
■ What Happened
· According to a Daily Tribune report, an unidentified woman called the housemaid pretending to be her employer and said, "I was in a car accident and urgently need money for hospital bills."
· She then told the maid to hand the valuables over to a Lalamove delivery rider she had already booked, and not to tell the employer's daughter.
· The housemaid later realized the accident was made up and asked a security guard for help.
· The missing items include Dior, Omega, and Cartier watches, Chanel, Prada, and Louis Vuitton wallets, gold rings and necklaces, and 50,000 pesos in cash. None of it has been recovered yet.
■ Investigation and Current Status
· The 43-year-old housemaid was turned over to the Pasig police station. The case was initially filed as qualified theft, but the final charges have not been determined.
· Police are tracing CCTV footage to find the caller and any accomplices.
■ Tips for Residents and Travelers
· Tell your housemaids and drivers in advance to always verify in person any call saying a family member is hurt and asking them to send money or belongings.
· Setting a family code word for verification can help filter out impersonation calls.
