60-something wanted South Korean fraud fugitive arrested in Comembo, Makati — 85-year-old South Korean with him also subject to 2015 deportation order
📌 On August 25, a 65-year-old South Korean man wanted in South Korea for fraud was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) in a residential area in Comembo, Makati.
At the same location, another South Korean, aged 85, who had already been issued a deportation order in 2015 and remained in the country, was also caught. Both men were detained at the BI detention facility.
■ Details of the Incident
· Arrested on Tuesday, August 25, in a residential barangay in Comembo, Makati, in a joint operation by the Bureau of Immigration and the Korean National Police Agency.
· The South Korean government had previously notified the BI that the Nonsan Branch of the Daejeon District Court had issued an arrest warrant for fraud in 2020.
· Classified as a "fugitive posing a risk to public safety" after it was confirmed he lacked immigration documents and had overstayed his visa.
· The arrest became known to the media about 12 days later, on September 6.
■ The 85-Year-Old South Korean Arrested Together
· Found at the same location during the execution of the warrant.
· Identified as an individual who received a deportation order in 2015 due to a lack of proper immigration documents — meaning he remained in the Philippines for about 11 years after the deportation order.
· Reports did not mention whether he was connected to the fraud case.
■ Current Status
· Both men are detained at the BI Warden's Facility, undergoing deportation proceedings.
■ Notice for Expats and Travelers
· Arrest warrants issued long ago in South Korea remain active, and if the South Korean government notifies the BI, you will be tracked down even years later.
· Deportation orders do not expire over time. Even elderly individuals can be detained together during raids if they lack documents.
· If you miss your visa extension, it is much safer to go directly to the Bureau of Immigration to pay fines and process your extension rather than hiding.
