Indonesian and Vietnamese police uniforms were found in a scam den raided in Pasay City, Philippines

This is a fake romance scam. They send photos of themselves in Vietnamese or Indonesian military uniforms and make video calls. They promise to come to the Philippines if you send money. They also take selfies and videos in uniform with other scammers, pretending to be at training or a military headquarters. The victims think they've hit the jackpot, but they don't know the identity is completely fake too. They've even set up a makeshift place that looks like a police station, which is why there are posters, and that also goes into the materials they send to victims.

Why did the news say they were Chinese?

The banner looks like it was sloppily made with AI too.. Unbelievable.

As an Indonesian, I'm surprised the mock-up of the Indonesian police headquarters was this elaborate (there was even a poster of the new National Police Chief). I guess it means Indonesians have gotten so used to checking every detail of each call to tell whether it's a scam.
