Location & Getting There — Located on the eastern coast of Baler town, Aurora, it takes about 4 to 5 hours by car from Angeles and Clark (approx. 180 km, passing through Tarlac and Nueva Ecija via the Pantabangan mountain road). By bus, take a bus from Dau terminal to Cabanatuan and then transfer to a Baler-bound bus or van (approx. 3 hours), taking about 5 to 6 hours in total. From the Baler terminal to the beach, a tricycle costs around ₱15 to 25 per person.
Surfing — With many surfing schools and instructors along the beach, you can take lessons on the spot without a reservation. A 1-hour lesson (including instructor and soft top board) costs around ₱350 to 400, while board rental alone is ₱150 to 200 per hour, ₱400 for a half-day, and around ₱800 for a full day. You can often get a better deal by bargaining with freelance instructors wandering the beach.
Season — The waves are best from September to March. September to November features large typhoon-generated waves suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers; December to March is the northeast monsoon season with the highest quality waves; and April to there is calm, making it ideal for absolute beginners and swimming. There is no entrance fee for the beach itself.
Tips — Check the flag warnings on the beach, and do not enter the water if there are no flags or lifeguards. Most beachside stalls accept cash only. Accommodations fill up quickly during Holy Week (Easter week) and the year-end holidays, so book in advance. Many travelers plan a trip of 1 night or more by combining it with nearby attractions like Ditumabo Mother Falls and Dicasalarin Cove.
