Rising alone in the Pampanga plain at an elevation of about 1,026 meters, Mount Arayat is a popular day-hike destination close to Angeles. Recent reviews indicate that the national park resort area at the foot of the mountain (spring-fed swimming pool zone) is currently closed, making it a place primarily visited for hiking.

Location & Getting There — The main trailhead is the DENR Ranger Station in Barangay San Juan Baño, Arayat, about a 1-hour drive from Angeles. For public transportation, take a jeepney to Arayat via San Fernando. There is also a trailhead on the opposite side in Magalang.

Hiking Courses — After registering at the ranger station, hikers climb to South Peak (summit), North Peak, or Pinnacle with a local guide. A day round-trip is standard, and the Quad Peak traverse connecting multiple peaks is an advanced route taking 12 to 14 hours. From the summit area, you can overlook the Pampanga plain and the Pampanga River at a glance.

Resort Area Status — There are notices that the national park resort at the foot of the mountain has been closed since late 2024 to early 2025, with visitor reviews mentioning the entrance was blocked in November 2025 and it was still under renovation in January 2026. Do not expect to use the swimming pools or cottages, and check with the DENR or the Arayat municipal government for reopening status.

Fees — Hiking registration fees vary by review and blog from ₱30 to 100 per person, and guide fees are ₱700 for a North Peak day hike (per reviews), ₱1,800 to 2,500 for a traverse course for a group of 5, and about ₱3,500 for Quad Peaks (2026 blogs). The Magalang side has an environmental fee of ₱50 to 100 and parking of ₱100.

Tips — There is no water on the trail, so pack 4 to 5 liters and start early in the morning to beat the heat. You must fill out a liability waiver and health declaration form at the entrance. The trails are very slippery after rain.
