Location & How to Get There — Registration and departure take place at the Capas Tourism Office in Barangay Santa Juliana, Capas, Tarlac. It is about a 1 to 1.5-hour drive via SCTEX from Angeles and Clark, while from Manila, you take a bus to Capas Junction for 2.5 to 3 hours, then switch to a tricycle. Private vehicles must be parked in Santa Juliana to rent a local 4x4 jeep.
Course — After a roughly 1-hour ride through the lahar (volcanic mudflow) canyons by 4x4 jeep, you get off and walk 1.5 to 2 hours one-way to the crater lake. During the dry season, the vehicle goes deeper to shorten the walking time, whereas in the wet season, you get off earlier and walk for over 2 hours.
Fees — Based on 2026 blogs, costs include ₱3,000–3,500 for a 4x4 jeep (up to 5 people), ₱500 for a local guide (per jeep, mandatory), ₱300 per person for the Capas environment and tourism fee, and ₱400–700 per person for the Botolan (Zambales indigenous area) fee. Those aged 40–59 may be subject to a blood pressure check, and visitors 60 and older may be asked for a medical certificate or travel insurance. The dry season (December–May) is the best time to visit, and trips can be suddenly canceled if it rains.
