Why do contractors and repair technicians often use whatever's already in the house instead of bringing all the materials they need? And why does everyone ask for a Viber number? Most foreigners living in the Philippines don't use it because it's not a secure platform.
They often have no tools or materials, and no expertise or curiosity to look things over before starting. Welcome to the land of 'destructive improvement.' Anything newly installed breaks the existing work, as long as the fix looks like it solved the problem. So they magically join pipes together and expect liquids and solids to flow the way they want, regardless of angles, bends, or fluid dynamics. No matter the gauge, they expect current to flow just by connecting two wires together, regardless of voltage. An air conditioner that needs 32A is connected to a breaker that can only handle 16A... and the house's meter can't handle more than 16A. Tilers ruin the paint, painters ruin the tiles. Dust ruins everything. Tools are left outside to rust. Parts that aren't installed vanish overnight. They take only the copper and wire, and garbage and cigarette butts are strewn everywhere. And that's assuming a proper worker shows up at all. 🙂
Think about how much they're paid per day, and think about how they'd afford expensive 'tools' for themselves... They're working to put food in their families' mouths... you can't eat a hammer...
I hired three laborers and all three stole tools. The last one asked for 2000 pesos for labor, and I offered 4. I gave him a 350 tip after he finished. I even bought him a 350-peso sheet metal cutter. Then he stole my American flashlight.
Come on... what's wrong with you. Filipinos use Viber. It's a bit much to expect every contractor to match your favorite messenger... switch to decaf, my friend.
Hmm... I'm a Russian construction worker. It's simple. Customers, you're buying labor, not materials. You're hiring a contractor, not a hardware store. A contractor should have their own tools. They work with their own tools, and those tools aren't the customer's property. They get them back when the job is done. But they don't work with their own materials. Materials become physically attached to your house and you keep them, right? Customers, those are your materials and you keep them. You buy the materials yourself, and we work with the materials you provide. In the end, those materials stick to your house and you keep them. If our contractor ruins the materials you gave us, we have to compensate or replace them, and that comes out of our pocket, since we damaged your property. But we don't buy your property in the first place! Or what, do you want us to pay for the labor and buy the materials too? What if the material costs exceed our fee??? No, no contractor works like that. A business should make a profit, not pay expenses.
