Why are there so many single mothers in the Philippines?
Why do they keep having children with Filipino men who cheat, can't hold a job, and are always drinking or gambling? It seems like there are a lot of cases like that. It feels like they're not thinking about the future at all, and then they expect a foreigner to come along and rescue them from the situation they created. The worst part is that they don't even have the money to raise their kids, so the cycle of poverty just keeps going.
There are plenty of traditional families in the Philippines too. Not every man abandons his wife, and not every woman is single. Single mothers exist all over the world, not just in the Philippines. Like many people on this planet, they want to build a family and a home and hope to meet their soulmate, but then problems come up. Still, I'll definitely criticize Filipino men who abandon their families. That part I really don't understand.
Poverty, religion (condoms are bad), and divorce being illegal, so fathers are more likely to run away. There are probably more reasons too.
Oh, so now we're generalizing? By that logic, why are there so many naive foreigners who end up marrying gold diggers in the Philippines?
It's because of the lack of contraception and family planning. Many people can't afford to see an OB-GYN. Some barangays hand out free contraceptives, but the promotion is terrible so few people know about it. Overall, sex education is lacking. And abortion is illegal here too.
Forget about religion and all that. Filipinos are people too, and they have sex. And sometimes when you have sex, pregnancy happens. What do men around the world do when they have no money and the woman gets pregnant? They run away. The Philippines has severe poverty, so that's just why this happens a lot. I'm not saying it's right, just that it's no different from anywhere else in the world. I live with a Filipino woman who has three kids from two different fathers, and both fathers failed to take responsibility. Their loss, my gain. I got a wonderful woman and three great kids!
