What do you think about the electricity rate hikes over the past few months?
My electricity bill used to be a quarter of my rent, and now it's over three-quarters, so it makes you wonder why I'm even in the Philippines.
And we can't leave out the other price increases, like food, internet, taxi base fares, and the OceanJet rip-off..
The electricity rate increase was around 15%. If your usage doubled on top of that, then you're simply using more electricity.
It really went up a lot. It used to be 4-5k a month, and now it comes out to 8k.
Electricity alone is 20k a month...? Is it just inflation, or is someone stealing? I've also heard of direct tapping cases: hooking wires straight onto utility poles, mini substations, or the main distribution line with no contract or meter. Meter tampering/bypassing: messing with the meter so it runs slow or stops, or so the usage can't be read at all.
Is that the rate you pay directly to the utility company (around 15-16 pesos per kWh), or is it a case where the condo adds a huge markup? I'm glad I live in a house. 6 bedrooms. I installed a 1.2 million solar system and my electricity bill went from 35k down to 10k. I earn a 25% return on investment and feel good about helping the planet too.
