I'm planning a two-week trip to CDO (Cagayan de Oro) in May. This is my first time in the Philippines, so I have a few questions.

Is it better to stay in a hotel, an Airbnb, or a condo? I've gotten different answers, so I'd like to hear from people with experience.

Are there any expressions or greetings that are good to learn?

How much cash should I carry when going out?

What's the safest wallet or method for carrying money?

And how can I adjust faster and enjoy my time there?

I'm 33 and I'm from Norway.

When you travel, get the Grab app. The exchange rate at Manila airport is pretty decent, and most people speak at least some English. I'd go with Airbnb, but if you look around you can find reasonably priced hotels too.

1. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Pickpocketing and bag snatching are common. Keep your money in an ATM and carry only part of it. Depending on how long you stay and your lifestyle, that's 5,000 to 10,000 dollars. A anti-theft bag is fine. 2. Kamusta? (How are you?) They understand you even if you speak English. 3. Hotels are fine. There are many upscale hotels, and there are decent budget places for under 30 to 50 dollars a night. 4. I don't know CDO well. Still, always be careful and don't trust people too much. Don't play with street animals. Rabies is no joke. 5. Enjoy the beaches and mountains, but be careful. The NPA (rebels) are, if anything, right around the corner. If possible, stay in the city. Good luck, and have a safe trip 🙂

It's better to carry an ATM card than cash. Still, bring a little cash. Good luck, and enjoy yourself.
