So many women don't get Karen Davila's point.

I'm not a fan of Karen, and I have some doubts about a few of her friends, but I still agree with what she said. I especially feel that way from seeing the women in my own family and going through it myself.

My dad was not a good man at all. He had almost every vice except drugs, and even though he was a seaman who earned a lot, my mom never quit her job as a public school teacher. When she finally decided to leave him because of his cheating, we struggled financially since his income was gone and things weren't the way they used to be. But she made it through, because she had never lived off his money alone. Our house was even built with her money.

So even though it was hard, we were able to finish school and become professionals. It's because my mom was an empowered woman who could make her own choices for herself and her children.

I always keep the strength she showed back then in my heart, and as a woman, I won't depend on a man to live my life.

Everyone confuses 'fulfillment' with 'empowerment.' Full-time stay-at-home moms talk about how empowered they feel in their role, but when you listen to their explanations, what they're really describing is the fulfillment that role gives them.

I think this is one of the reasons women stay with cheating husbands. They convince themselves that staying is for the kids and that God wants it, but the truth is they don't have a single peso in their own name.

I think it's a bitter pill to swallow for SAHMs with no income.

Why are we surprised that so many people in our country are clueless about money matters, men and women alike?

lol there was a post about this on nanay confessions not long ago I'm not against SAHMs (I'm not married or a mom yet), but even though my dad is a good provider, I personally witnessed how he made my mom and us dependent on him, so my mom has no power to leave (because of us kids). I'm a woman and I agree with Karen. I saw this growing up, and not everyone is lucky enough to marry a breadwinner who doesn't use it to lord it over them. My parents are married, so my mom is tied to my dad without the 'live-in' concept. They say my dad changed after they got married.
