Scouting trip
I'm flying to Metro Manila in about 3 weeks to check things out. What would you put on my must-see list to help me figure out whether, and where, I should retire here?
Cultural/historical sites: Intramuros, Manila. Watch out for scammers, and watch vlogs to set your expectations. Central business districts: 1. BGC, Taguig City. Best visited Friday or Saturday from late afternoon to late night. 2. Ayala, Makati City. Go early on a Sunday morning so you can stroll and enjoy the weekend market at Salcedo Village. Casino/hotel areas: Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. Check out Solaire Resort or Okada Manila. Nightlife: 1. Poblacion, Makati City. Watch out for pickpockets. 2. Tomas Morato, Quezon City. Malls/shopping centers: 1. Greenhills, San Juan City. Budget-friendly. 2. Mall of Asia, Pasay City. The biggest mall in the Philippines. 3. Greenbelt, Makati City. High-end shopping. 4. Power Plant, Rockwell, Makati City. High-end. Watch vlogs/reviews, always keep an eye on your belongings and watch out for scammers. Filipinos communicate well in English.
Don't judge the Philippines by Manila. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of better places to spend time than Manila.
The best places to live are Cebu or Angeles City.
From Manila you can go to nearby Tagaytay, or to Baguio or Batangas. It's better if you know someone to travel with you. Or use a trusted service (a driver) as your tour guide too.
From your own legwork, what do you know so far? That can be your baseline.
