I'm thinking about leaving the UK and splitting my time between the Philippines and Thailand (probably going to Thailand about 3 times a year). I've heard that the Philippines has less hassle with immigration procedures and income issues, and that it's easier to settle there permanently.
What I'm wondering is this:
I've heard that you can stay up to 3 years without leaving after being given 30 days on arrival—how does that work??
And I've heard that, unlike Thailand, you don't have to pay tax on income earned overseas—is that right??
Also, if there's anything I need to report, what would that be??
I'm from Chesterfield, UK, and I've lived in the Philippines for 4 years and 3 months. I've been to immigration 26 times, and as long as I pay every 2 months, there's no problem. Processing takes about 30 minutes.
Thailand is limited to 2 entries per year!!
The first month is free, and after that you extend your visa every 2 months, up to 3 years max. Then you leave, come back in, and start over from the beginning.
Cambodia... the 1-year retirement visa is $300 and they don't ask anything. You don't even have to go to immigration, just go to an agency.
