Tropical Storm 'Champi' Expected to Enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday, October 20

📌 On Friday, October 16, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast that the strong tropical storm 'Champi (Champi)' in the distant eastern sea is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) around next Tuesday, October 20. The storm's center is far from the Philippines, but rain may fall over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao from Monday, the 19th, due to the storm's trough.

■ What Is Changing
· As of the afternoon observation on the 16th, Champi was 2,930 km east of Eastern Visayas, with maximum sustained winds of 100 km/h near the center and gusts up to 125 km/h, moving west at 20 km/h.
· PAGASA forecaster Daniel James Villamil said that although the storm's center is far away, its trough will bring rain to some areas.
· Before that, cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms are forecast for the Visayas, Mindanao, Bicol, Mimaropa, and Quezon Province due to the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
· The Philstar reported that PAGASA views this storm as one that "could become a super typhoon." How strong it will become and which path it will take have not yet been confirmed.

■ Tips for Residents and Travelers
· If you have booked travel or ferry trips to the Visayas or Mindanao (such as Cebu, Bohol, and Iloilo) next week, check PAGASA forecasts and airline and shipping company notices frequently.
· Once it enters the Philippine area, it will be given a local Filipino name. Even if the name changes in the news, it may still be the same storm.
· Be alert to floods and landslides in areas where prolonged rain falls.
