PWD ID verification should be stricter, especially when there's no medical basis!

I'm just venting because I'm frustrated. I've come across two people who got PWD (person with disability) IDs even though their medical proof was questionable or insufficient. What worries me even more is that they seem to have relatives working there, which probably made it easier for them to get the ID.

So it makes me wonder: what happens when a PWD ID is actually issued by the LGU (local government unit), but the person never went through a proper assessment, or there isn't enough medical documentation to back up the disability claim? Technically it's a real ID because it came from the proper office, but what about the legitimacy of the claim behind it?

Shouldn't verification be even stricter when someone has an inside contact or a relative? Personal connections shouldn't be a shortcut to benefits meant for people who qualify.

To be clear, not every disability is visible, and you can't judge people by how they look. My point is that there should be a proper medical assessment and documentation, and having a connection to a staff member shouldn't make it easier to get a PWD ID.

Real PWDs struggle to prepare their documents, so it's sad that some people might be able to get around the process through personal connections.

What do you think can be done to prevent this kind of abuse without making things harder for genuine PWDs?

People who use fake PWD IDs should be publicly shamed.

PWD IDs should really be managed centrally at the national level. But then again, even the implementation of the national ID was a mess. A lot of people around me still haven't received their physical IDs. Back to PWD IDs, it's really unfair to businesses. I know people who have an ID but aren't PWDs. And honestly, there are also businesses that ask for a PWD ID and then don't give the discount. They raise the base price and pretend to discount it to avoid taxes. So let's just vent here.

As a PWD and a store owner, I'll say there are fake IDs. But there are far more fake PWDs holding real IDs. The corruption is with the LGUs that issue them. Quezon City is strict, while Manila isn't.

I'm a PWD too, but mine is invisible (psoriasis). Sometimes when I show my ID, people look at me a bit differently. Still, my conscience is clear. My ID is on the DOH website and I got it properly from city hall. It's not my fault that my condition is somewhat hidden. But we get dragged down along with those forgers.
