Ladies, stop using the N-word!!!! How old are you? It doesn't make you look cool at all. Apparently that woman got furious about being called the N-word and a fight broke out.

I'm a Black foreigner living in the Philippines. Before I came here, a few Filipino friends advised me that everybody uses that word but there's no malice behind it. In the States the word is so embedded in the culture that whenever videos like this get posted, you hear it thrown around like it's nothing. Since I've been here, I haven't heard anyone say it. If a Filipino said it to me, whether as a joke or in normal conversation, I'd like to think I could calmly chalk it up to ignorance. I'm in another country, and I don't want to become fodder on Reddit, TikTok, or X for racist posters who want to claim Black people can't behave anywhere. But honestly I don't go out much, and this video looks like a group of people in their 20s. I'm in my 30s and I don't fight anymore unless I absolutely have to. Beyond all that, what I want to say is that I treat everyone I meet with respect. If someone disrespects me I won't throw the first punch, but if they want to go down that road, then so be it. It may sound like an ordinary thing to say, but I hope we can all be kind to each other. Filipinos deserve much better treatment, and you know what I mean. So don't use that word. Not even among yourselves. Let's change how we treat each other. Don't try to provoke reactions out of people, treat them with respect, courtesy, and kindness... and if you have nothing good to say, stay quiet. Because it takes a stronger will to end a conflict peacefully.

As a Black person, that word has no power over me. It's a word people on our side use every day, and I don't get why people get so worked up over that one word. If you look at history, there's no difference between the two variants (the N-word ending in A and the hard-R one), since slave owners used both the same way. If this word makes you angry, I hope you don't use it yourself and stay away from the people who do.

The one who started the fight

Sounds like the one who called him the N-word started the fight. They knew exactly what they were doing, what kind of hate they were spewing, and how much emotion was behind it. Anyone who still says otherwise is part of the problem. Ugh, seriously.

Why do you think any word gives you the right to hit someone? Whatever the historical context, saying the N-word doesn't automatically mean you deserve to get beaten... though it seems to be tolerated in Western culture.

I used to work with government officials, and if you're Black they call you the N-word no matter what, and if you're German they call you Hitler no matter what. Filipinos are generally racist even toward other Filipinos. They don't ask if you're Filipino, they ask which province you're from. Even 4- and 5-year-old kids use the N-word along with other curse words and swearing.
