I'm a solo traveler, and my only time in the Philippines so far was 5 to 6 days in Cebu. I had originally planned to visit a few islands, but a typhoon came through, so I ended up staying only around the city.
I'd like to go back the next time I'm in Asia, and I want to see 3 to 4 places, both cities and islands, over 2 to 3 weeks.
Some people recommend Dumaguete, Boracay, and Iloilo. Could you suggest a city and beach route that won't involve very long travel times? Is BGC worth a few days?
Thank you!
If you want great beaches, Dumaguete and Iloilo aren't the places. Consider Boracay, Bohol, Siquijor, or Siargao, or stay in Luzon and go south to Laiya or north to Zambales. Rombloon and Tablas also have beautiful beaches.
Dumaguete and Iloilo aren't it, it's a soulless city with nothing much to see. Bohol is okay and Siquijor is great. Boracay is fun but it's a huge tourist resort area, basically one long pretty beach and tons of hotels. El Nido is fun for a few days of island hopping. Coron too, but the town itself is pretty gloomy. There's no big city worth going to unless you want to spend the day sitting in a mall Starbucks.
Boracay is just a beach full of white tourists... if no one told you, you might not even know it's in the Philippines... lol
BGC is a good base when you arrive in Manila, but it's basically a concrete jungle with terrible traffic, same as the rest of Metro. So I won't stay long. It's pretty, but I'd use it at most 5 days to rest between moves, then fly to the beaches soon. Palawan is a good first destination though. If you want to enjoy it, stay a week. Don't move around too much in a short time, you'll get tired, so stay in one place.
