My father turned 65 on October 2nd of this month. On October 14th he received his Social Security deposit, and it looks like the Social Security Administration has started deducting $200 for Medicare. Can he cancel the Medicare Part B premium and keep only Part A, which is free?

I'd keep Part B if I were you. It has its advantages.

I'm a veteran, so I handle prescriptions and the care that would fall under Part B through the VA. That's why I've never paid for Medicare Part B.

I have a Humana Advantage plan. Part of it is paid by the insurer, and I pay about $90 a month. I don't know the exact amount. If I go to the ER in the Philippines, I pay up front, and if I'm hospitalized, Humana reimburses me.
