Hello!

Has anyone here had a laptop shipped from the US to the Philippines? Used or new is fine. My cousin is going to send me an older laptop that was discontinued two years ago, but it still runs well.

Which shipping service did you use (USPS Priority Mail)?

How long did it take to arrive?

What value did you declare to customs?

Did you have to pay any duties or VAT? How much?

Was it delivered to your door, or did you pick it up at the post office?

Any tips or things to avoid?

Thank you so much! 🙏

Use LBC Airmail. They have a small box for that purpose. Electronics tax is $50 plus shipping. It takes 7–10 business days. Declare it as a gift.

They say not to send electronics with batteries in a Balikbayan box because of fire risk. They recommend carrying them on as hand luggage. Companies like Johnny Air Cargo and LBC add up to about $40 in extra charges on top of the duties depending on the declared value.

I'm a software developer. I sent my work laptop, it cost $480 and took almost two weeks. Yes, I paid the duties. It was a work laptop so I had no choice. I used FedEx. Now USPS doesn't exist for me anymore. But... it's an old laptop. Tell your cousin to fill a $100 Balikbayan box. Fill it with Halloween candy that's on sale on November 1st. Save money.
