Sharing some news I saw today. It's welcome good news for anyone trying to get a foreign divorce from a previous marriage recognized.
As lawyers, this makes our jobs a lot easier. About time.
As far as I read it, the gist is that she only needs to show the divorce certificate in court. The foreigner only needs to get a Legal Capacity to Marry certificate from his embassy to remarry in the Philippines.

Not sure how much this will actually change things for the better. A few years back they made it much, much harder to get a foreign divorce recognized. Lots of lawyers stopped taking these cases because of the headache and the insane amount of time for something so simple in principle. The few who still do have raised their fees 3-5x, from 50-60k to 150-300k.
I got my divorce decree from Northern Ireland. I contacted a law firm 2 years ago and they told me to just bring the decree to the Regional Trial Court (RTC) to have it recognized here. I still have the decree, but I haven't gone to the RTC yet. Still busy.
