Sensational posts

There are a lot of really sensational expat posts lately, and there are now several Philippines expat subs.

Many of these accounts have very common names and their post histories are hidden. I wonder how many are genuine and how many are trolls or bots. If I were a hostile foreign power, I'd want to use bots to contaminate how people perceive each other.

Anyway, I like the Philippines. No place is perfect, but I really like it. Overall I like the Philippines, and I like making people's days a bit better here.

I think that's the responsibility of travelers and retirees. We have extra time and patience, so we can take things slowly and look at things calmly. Every encounter makes someone's day a little better or worse, that changes their emotional state, and when people are in a better emotional state, that carries over into what comes next.

I love the Philippines. I've built a great life there for myself and others!

I think there should be karma and account age requirements, and profiles shouldn't be private.

I think it comes down to language and platform. Filipinos speak English. Many foreigners speak only English or have it as their native language. In every country, foreigners complain, and in every country, locals complain about foreigners. I'm from Canada, and we complain about Indian and Chinese international students too. They're just not on the same platform where they can talk back. Maybe Indians are, but I'm not sure. It's no different here. Filipinos complain about white people, and everyone pushes back because they put their own interests first. I understand both sides. I think the foreigners here are too sensitive. Most expats I know don't work here and use their Western status to benefit in a less developed country. Why do they get so upset over basic criticism? Dating young women, enjoying cheap prices, looking down on Filipinos, criticizing Filipinos, not paying taxes, and still demanding that people online not hurt their feelings? Come on, man, grow a thicker skin.
