Hello, my husband and I are planning to sell our house in the US. Before buying another home, we want to spend 6 months in the Philippines. Could you guide me on how to go about the visa process? My aunt who lives in California is also planning to come back when she retires at the end of this year. I've called the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco several times, but I still haven't been able to reach anyone who can answer my questions. I'd really appreciate any advice. Maraming salamat (thank you so much).
I'm also a foreigner living in the Philippines, and before selling your house in the US, I'd suggest traveling around the Philippines first to see how things are and pick where you'll live. As for the visa, on my second visit I applied for an extension first, and after that I renewed before each extension period ended... I chose to live in Quezon province, which isn't very popular with foreigners, and I rent a small, ordinary house near a river and live the way the local people do. I don't show off any wealth at all, I live quietly and try not to get too close to anyone... Be polite to everyone, but draw a firm line.
At the time you were born, was one of your parents a Philippine citizen? If so, you can apply for a Philippine passport. I got mine last year.
Try sending an email. They seem to reply to emails pretty quickly.
