16 Child Online Sexual Exploitation Victims Rescued in Cainta, Rizal and General Santos

📌 On October 13 (Tuesday), the Philippine National Police Women and Children Protection Center (PNP-WCPC) carried out an online child sexual exploitation crackdown in Cainta, Rizal, and General Santos City in Mindanao, rescuing 16 victims. The operation was launched based on information handed over by U.S. and Dutch investigative agencies.

■ Background of the Case
· A total of 16 victims were rescued. Philstar reported 15 minors and 1 adult, while Daily Tribune reported 16 minors (the reports differ).
· According to Philstar, in Cainta, 4 children aged 9, 11, 14, and 15 and 1 aged 19 were rescued; the rest were rescued in General Santos.
· Police said the children in General Santos were rescued from parents who had conducted online transactions with an American sex offender.
· Investigators secured photos and videos that appear to show child sexual abuse.

■ Investigation and Current Status
· Police are continuing the investigation in coordination with U.S. and Dutch investigative agencies.
· On October 16 (Friday), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) condemned all forms of child sexual abuse and exploitation and stressed that parents have a responsibility to protect their children from online sexual exploitation of children (OSAEC). A 14-year-old victim rescued in Cainta wrote a letter asking parents to protect their children.

· If you suspect online child sexual exploitation, report it to the police or to 911. Demanding photos or videos of children in exchange for payment is itself a crime.
· Check the phones and messaging apps your children use for conversations with unfamiliar adults or traces of money transactions.
