Hello everyone, could you recommend a good health insurance plan? I'm tired of getting overcharged at private hospitals.

There is no such thing. Unless you are young enough to have no pre-existing conditions. Philippine health insurance treats pre-existing conditions unfavorably. They are either not covered or the premiums go through the roof. If you can afford to pay 5,000 dollars in premiums, then maybe.

This is one of the big reasons I'm going back home. Hospitals here try to squeeze every last penny out of white people. Our son was born a bit early (a few days before full term), and even though he was fine, they hooked him up to oxygen and tube feeding. I told my doctor and nurse friends in the US and they were worried. They kept saying, "It's a precautionary measure, sir." We ended up with a bill much higher than expected, and they didn't even let the mother hold the baby after birth. We could only look through the glass and were told to come to the nursery the next day. This country is an absolute dumpster fire. The best health insurance is going back home, seriously. Cut your losses now.

AXA GHA is very good. They pay the hospital directly. They have a variety of plans, from basic to full coverage including dental and vision. The annual coverage limit is 100 million pesos and it can be used worldwide. Over the past 2 years, I have been hospitalized 12 times totaling over 200 days, had 4 major surgeries, various procedures and tests, over 100 outpatient treatments, and received a lot of prescription drugs, and AXA paid for everything according to the policy.

Get PhilHealth and go to a public hospital for general health issues. If you get cancer or a major non-emergency illness, unless you have about 1 million pesos to spare, book a flight back to your home country. Foreigners aren't covered by PhilHealth anyway. Most major things exclude foreigners, and the Z Benefits package is excluded too. For common conditions like colonoscopy, you can get it done much cheaper than the regular price.
