Does anyone here get their SSA (US Social Security) benefits through American Bank and have problems? We haven't received our benefits, and I think it's because it has now merged with Prosperity Bank. My husband passed away last year, and I had no trouble getting survivor benefits until the merger. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Update: Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to reply. I called the bank, and they said there's no need to change the routing number because they kept all the American Bank records. I called Social Security customer service, and they said the check has already been sent but they don't know why it isn't showing in my account yet. I called using the Viber app, so it was free from the Philippines to the US.
Thanks again, and may both sides of your pillow always be cool.

I'm sorry for your loss. Glad to hear you're receiving survivor benefits. The bank merger took effect on January 1, 2026. The system conversion was scheduled for September 2026. First, identify the first missing payment and the date it should have arrived. You can reach Prosperity from abroad at +1 806-741-3302. You can also use the chat on their website or the Prosperity phone app. Ask them to investigate the missing deposit: was it received, rejected, returned to SSA, or held? Also confirm whether your account or routing number changed during the conversion. You can also contact the Federal Benefits Unit in Manila: FBU.Manila@ssa.gov. Ask the FBU whether SSA issued the missing payment, whether it was returned, and whether your benefits are still active.

Social Security spousal benefits go out on the same schedule as regular retirement benefits; there's no separate spousal date. For 2026, the rule is: When it's paid: 1. If you started receiving benefits BEFORE May 1997, or you get both SSI and Social Security: You're paid on the 3rd of every month. If the 3rd falls on a weekend or federal holiday, you're paid the Friday before. 2. If you started in May 1997 or later (most people): You're paid on a Wednesday, based on the birthday of the worker whose record you're claiming on: • Birthdays 1st-10th: 2nd Wednesday of the month • Birthdays 11th-20th: 3rd Wednesday of the month • Birthdays 21st-31st: 4th Wednesday of the month Important for spousal benefits: everyone on one record gets paid the same day. So your spousal payment date is set by the primary worker's birthday, not your own. For example, in May 2026: • May 1: SSI + pre-May 1997 beneficiaries • May 13: birthdays 1st-10th • May 20: birthdays 11th-20th • May 27: birthdays 21st-31st Direct deposits and mailed checks go out the same day.
