Things to do in the Philippines with little kids
My Filipina wife, our future child and I are planning to move to the Philippines next year. We'll rent a townhouse with a small patio and garden in Naga City, where her family lives.
Being from Europe, I always pictured that if I had a kid we'd go to the park, go to the mountains, play soccer together and so on..
But in the Philippines I see there are very few public parks, and the ones there are aren't very appealing, and public spaces are packed with cars.. so I'm wondering what you all do to spend time outdoors with your kids.
I guess going to the mall is the big thing there, but I'm looking for more outdoor activities
I wouldn't raise my child in the Philippines if I had other options.
What you described is a big reason why my family and I will be leaving and won't raise children here. Kids grow up in malls or condo playrooms, or climbing the same tree in their small subdivision or province. The Philippines is a TERRIBLE place to be a kid. Honestly, I'd call it neglect if you have better options.
Soccer might not be so easy to find, but there are basketball courts everywhere, and all the kids and lots of adults play basketball. There are plenty of nice mountain hikes too, if that's your thing. Community churches are very active, if that's your jam. I'm not particularly religious myself, but I get a lot of social value out of them. Public parks are kind of a dud though, honestly; I've pretty much given up on those.
Since the kid will be raised in the Philippines, let them grow up the Filipino way. Otherwise, raise them abroad. Ask Filipinos, not expats who know nothing about this country and have twisted views of it.
My husband told me it's often too hot or humid for outdoor activities in the city during the day. And going for a family walk around the neighborhood isn't really a thing. He said it also took them hours of driving in bad traffic to get to a beach or a bush walk.
Love how the future child is in on the planning too lol
Find a place away from her family.
