Okay, I know this post will get plenty of snarky comments, but what's the deal with dating in this country? I'm an American in my early 60s and I haven't dated in over 30 years! I was married for 29 years and was widowed 3 years ago. Dating has changed so much, and now that I'm living alone in the Philippines (Cebu City area), dating here feels even more different. I'm on the quiet side and I've never been the type to approach women. But things seem really different here. My question is: how do I approach someone, say a woman I see in a shop I wouldn't normally even go into (like a dress shop), or a waitress at a restaurant I'd like to get to know? What do people do on a first date (or even a second) here these days? Please be kind. I know this sounds strange, but after all these years it feels strange to me too. I'd just like to have someone to spend time with again, and I'd appreciate any thoughts on where you all take your dates. Thanks.

Try church

If you're a believer or open to visiting or joining a church, maybe get involved in church activities. Just my two cents. 😉

Friends first

Get out and make friends. Skip the bars. Hang out in coffee shops or join a congregation or something. The point is to make friends, and you can go from there

Filipinas are already reaching out to you in the comments here looking for dates. Huge red flags. Also stay out of sex bars and look for a woman with a real, respectable job.

If you're uncomfortable approaching women, join a dating site. It's easier to "break the ice" chatting online first and meet in person later.

Network with other expats. Introductions through them are much safer. Meet and greet. Use your brain when dating, not your wallet. Being generous is fine as long as you know the limit; the sky is not the limit. Set limits and boundaries on certain behaviors (when money is involved), especially from the first date to the twelfth. Of course you can pay for your meal, your date's meal and her chaperone's (one or two people, not the whole clan). Many people (foreigners and locals alike) will tell you money can buy anything and everything, but that's not true. You can't buy GMRC, Good Manners & Right Conduct. Avoid going after college students, especially in the cities (most are minors looking for education sponsors and are most likely not after a long-term relationship). Stay safe and guard your heart and your wallet.

People laughing at this post and others should be kicked out of this group. They just troll instead of being decent human beings.
