Ravens playing in the snow
I love these birds so much. Why did people ever think they were bad omens?
They're carrion birds. They follow death and peck at flesh, the equivalent of vultures circling overhead. They're beautiful, intelligent creatures, but where they go, you're likely to find death.
Ravens are omnivores. They're pretty opportunistic about food. And yes, carrion is definitely on the menu.
Yes, they're carrion birds. “But they also eat oats and berries sometimes” doesn't explain their bad reputation.
I don't think it's quite accurate to call them carrion birds. It's more accurate to call them opportunistic omnivores.
Corvids are the best.
I worked in Lake Tahoe for a while and saw ravens being total rascals and goofballs in fresh snow. It was cool to learn how much they love snow
I love that it's rolling down the hill!
