Do what you were trained to do
His coach the moment it sank in.
Well, he definitely did what he was trained to do
Yeah, his training was very specific.
I worked at a plastics plant decades ago. A group of guys there went off to a special school to learn how to fight the kinds of fires they'd run into at the plant. One of the main drills was a burst pipe fire. One team would man a hose and spray down another team, who'd move in on the valve that shut off the flow feeding the fire. Once the valve was closed, they'd put out whatever flames were left. Then the valve team would open it back up and relight it to set up for the next team. They did this over and over until they got it right. Guess what happened the first time they had to fight a real fire at the plant?
That's awful, but damn, it's funny too
I work in safety training, and a story that gets told a lot is about the cop who practiced disarming over and over. When he did it for real, he disarmed the criminal, then muscle memory kicked in and he immediately handed the weapon right back...
That's muscle memory.
Is he slowed to smack it back with his bare hand?
Allowed* I'm fluent in autocorrect
