Greetings
Is it normal to meet the Filipino family of the woman you're having a child with and have only 2 out of 5–6 people acknowledge you or say anything? Even after meeting a few more times and buying them alcohol, they don't look at me, say hi, or even nod. Is this normal Filipino culture? Expats, and especially locals, please share your opinion. I'm from the West, and there everyone in the house would greet you in some way, no matter what
It's not normal. Usually it means they really don't approve of the relationship in some way. And it's serious. Normally they'd at least be polite.
I find the way you describe your relationship odd: ‘the family of the woman I'm having a child with.’ Is she your girlfriend? Are you in a committed relationship? Are you sticking around? Are you planning to marry her? It's really hard to give an opinion without some context.
They don't expect you to stick around.. They think they'll be the ones dealing with the aftermath
They're probably just shy, it's really not that deep
How old are you, and how old is she? Either they're shy or they don't approve. If you start the conversation, do the quiet ones respond with a smile or without one?
Maybe learn some of their language. You'll get laughed at for mispronouncing words, but it'll lighten the mood.
