Hi everyone
Are any of you UK pensioners claiming Attendance Allowance? I'm asking because I noticed there are residency rules and wondered what that's all about
* The past presence rule: to claim Attendance Allowance, the UK Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) requires you to have actually been in the UK for at least 2 of the last 3 years (104 of 156 weeks) and to be 'habitually resident' in the UK. * Moving to a non-EEA country (like the Philippines): you can't claim Attendance Allowance long-term while living permanently in the Philippines. It only continues during temporary absences (up to 13 weeks, or 26 weeks for specific medical treatment). * The common misconception: some UK retirees confuse moving to the Philippines with moving to an EU/EEA country (where pre-Brexit rules or certain bilateral social security agreements sometimes let you receive some sickness benefits abroad). The Philippines has no such reciprocal benefit agreement with the UK, so living there makes you ineligible for Attendance Allowance.
Also, if you leave the UK for more than six months, you're not entitled to the NHS
Short answer: no. You can't claim any UK benefits abroad apart from the State Pension or the Widows Bereavement Support scheme. By coming to the Philippines, you cut your ties with the UK.
No.
My husband has been bedridden since 2023 and lives here in the Philippines. Do you mean he could apply for Attendance Allowance? It would be a big help with his medication if he can.
