Posting anonymously because of the health issue and because I know people in this group.
I'm in the middle of getting my SRRV courtesy visa under my husband. I'm American. We just heard from our PRA marketer that I have to go back for a pulmonary clearance because they saw something on my chest X-ray during the initial medical exam.

About four years ago I was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, an autoimmune lung disease. It isn't contagious. No one ever asked about my medical history, and I never brought it up.

Should I disclose it now? Should I ask what they saw on the X-ray? Could the Philippines reject my dependent SRRV because of this? I'm really nervous and not sure how to handle it. I have an appointment for the pulmonary clearance in Manila next week. I'd love to hear from anyone who's been through this.

Just disclose it

It's not surprising they might see a bit of scarring on your lungs. If that's all it is, I doubt you'd be denied. I'd disclose everything, because if you don't, they'll keep sending you for tests until they find the answer anyway. Cheaper and less stress. Just my opinion. Best of luck.

The Philippine Retirement Authority is strict about contagious diseases like tuberculosis. Just declare it, since they'll see it on your chest X-ray anyway. It's very unlikely your application will be denied.

Autoimmune care worries

If you have an autoimmune disorder, the Philippines isn't the place for you. My girlfriend is a nurse and helps me navigate the health system here, and we still get nowhere. The doctors don't listen, and since autoimmune disorders are apparently rare here, good luck getting medication. I'm in Cebu, and getting the drugs is next to impossible.

It's your X-ray. Get a copy of the results yourself and go from there. If the X-ray matches the diagnosis you already have, then definitely disclose it. Don't pay your application fee or make your deposit until that's sorted. While you wait for the results, ask the PRA or your agent exactly what counts as disqualifying in the medical, and on the X-ray in particular.

I got my SRRV just a couple of months ago, and I have the same lung condition. Like you, I was sent for a further pulmonary evaluation. I'd had X-rays done a year before I came to the Philippines, and my US doctor documented that my lung scarring was long-term and hadn't gotten worse in the past 10 years. The pulmonologist then certified me as fit for medical clearance, and it was approved quickly.
