How Austrian police handle lost and found
I love how everyone denies the banana is theirs.
Of course. It's policy never to imply ownership in the case of a banana. You have to use the indefinite article, 'a banana,' never 'your banana.'
Okay, this was a comedy sketch, right? So much to unpack.
Nope, not a sketch! It's from Am Schauplatz ('On the Scene'), an Austrian documentary series on ORF about everyday life that's been running for 30 years. This clip is from their 30th-anniversary best-of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZsDD9yfcu8 The auto-captions couldn't handle the dialect, so I did the subtitles myself.
Thanks for that. I'm German and also lived in Austria for a while, but when the guy who brought the stuff to the police started talking, I didn't understand a single word. ๐
He never got his beer! Such a reasonable request, and he got a banana insteadโฆ
Well, he's not allowed to drink, so it was for the best
For the English speakers here Technically they're speaking German, but in practice I have no idea what they're saying ^^. I needed the subtitles. Only the voiceover was understandable. To put it in perspective: it sounded to me the way this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs-rgvkRfwc) would sound to you
Oof. He gets his pistol back and immediately sweeps the muzzle across everyone in the room.
Stark naked, rubbing his belly at the end. He got his reward, though.
