Staying at Go Hotels, there's a durian and fruit stall right around the corner. We ate durian in our room and got fined the next morning. No signs anywhere — has this happened to anyone?
I think it's common knowledge by now that durian is banned in hotels
Why would you think it's OK to eat durian in a hotel room? That's like saying I can smoke weed or whatever in my hotel because there's no sign. Use common sense.
Durian isn't allowed in lots of places around the world, especially hotels. It stinks up the whole building and plenty of people hate the smell. It also takes a long time to clear out of the room. The fine seems fair, since they may not be able to rent the room out for a few days.
Durian is banned anywhere that's an enclosed space. You've got to go eat it outside in a park, on the beach, or in a back alley somewhere.
My apartment and the hotels I've stayed at in Thailand have signs about not eating durian. Live and learn — an honest mistake
How much was the fine?
