I'm going to be away for 4 months. Singapore for 1.5 months, the US for 2.5 months…
Is it a contradiction that I say I love the Philippines but I'm insanely excited to be leaving for a while?
This might sound dumb… but I genuinely love this place and the people here… and yet I also feel relieved to be getting away for a bit. Just curious what you all think.
I leave Friday morning.
That's what's called needing a vacation.
Welcome to Singapore :) I'm sure you have friends here, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Again? I thought you'd already left for Singapore/the US like five times. https://www.reddit.com/r/Philippines_Expats/comments/1vj6d1w/comment/p2mhh2o/ If you're thinking about it this much this time, maybe it means you'll be back after the 4 months :) Have a good flight and enjoy the change of scenery, bro!
I'm just surprised an expat on this sub can afford to visit Singapore.
Sounds like you're forcing yourself to like the Philippines. I was there 4 years straight. In June 2026 I came back to the US for a few weeks to take care of things, and 4 months later I'm still here, even though I have a fiancée and an apartment full of my stuff in the Philippines. I'm running out of excuses not to book a flight back. But honestly, every day I ask myself whether I can really go back to that place. My fiancée isn't happy about it.
