AMA: Left the Philippines, bought a house, and moved back home
Hi everyone,
I’m doing an AMA before I leave this sub for good. I retired early, moved to the Philippines, and lived there for about 5 years. But now I’ve moved back home, bought a house, and settled down.
Ask me anything you want before I leave this sub for good.
What was the final straw?
My question is, why do you think any of us care?
Which city, and where did you meet your partner?
Do you think a hybrid approach would be better? A few months a year in the Philippines and the rest back in the US (if that’s where you’re from)?
Yep. So many people sing the praises of the Philippines. I was there for 4 years, have lots of friends there, and a fiancée. I came back to the US in June 2026 just to take care of a few things (supposed to be 2 or 3 weeks), and now it’s been 4 months. I’m really having a hard time booking that flight back to the Philippines. I don’t know if I can go back to that. Needless to say, my fiancée is very upset.
