I think if he had enough upper-body strength to comfortably move far enough sideways to get out of the way, he'd have enough upper-body strength to just hang there longer

People in the comments saying to just move sideways don't realize it's actually much harder than it looks. That said, the kid looks light and active, so I bet he could've pulled it off.
