Filipina behavior — is this normal, and if so, why?
I went on dates with two different Filipinas. Both showed very specific, similar behaviors that I had a hard time relating to. I'm wondering whether this is normal, and if so, why.
Both work 40-hour-a-week jobs, and Saturday is a "day of rest" — they talk about liking to stay home, preferably in bed.
Both really love staying in bed on weekend mornings. Even after waking up they'd say "I'm going to stay in bed a bit longer," and they seemed to relish the idea of lying in bed all morning doing nothing.
Both said they don't like going for walks. "Not into walking." "I hate walking."
Thoughts?
Maybe they're tired from work, bro, relax.
Americans do the same thing. I'm guessing you're talking about women under 40.
Well, you can't really blame them for not liking walks if they live somewhere like Manila, where it's super hot and humid. My wife doesn't like walking in those conditions, but when we go to Baguio or the Visayas islands, where it feels fresher than Manila, she's happy to go on walks.
On the lying-in-bed thing, I too prefer to be horizontal. On walking, it does seem to be pretty widespread. I can see why in the big cities, outside a few pockets: - Bad air pollution - Stray dogs (rabies risk, dog poo everywhere) - Piles of trash - Few unobstructed footpaths, so you're often right next to somewhat crazy drivers with window tint so dark they can barely see out - Security risk — my spouse had some specific family-related risks, but basically never went out alone in Manila anywhere that wasn't a business or mall with guards. - A climate that tends to be hot and sticky - Fear of tanning or "getting dark" Hence pedicabs and the like, to take people a few hundred meters.
I think people in the Philippines generally don't like walking outside. Maybe it's a cultural thing.
