Am I wrong to feel uncomfortable about my boyfriend's online 'best friend,' who seems controlling?
My boyfriend has an online friend from the US whom he's known for six years, but they've never met in person even once. My boyfriend thinks of him as his best friend, but I've grown uncomfortable with their friendship.
This guy seems to have disapproved of almost every woman my boyfriend has dated, even someone he once loved. He often discourages serious relationships and gives him advice on how he should live his life.
He's given my boyfriend large sums of money, money for alcohol to treat women with, and all kinds of gifts. He also tries to mentor him in business, but when my boyfriend chooses a different direction, instead of just supporting him, he pushes his own plans.
He also seems very interested in controlling my boyfriend's looks, his outfits, even getting face surgery. For example, he encouraged my boyfriend to get semaglutide weight-loss injections like Ozempic. Personally, I'm more in favor of losing weight naturally through proper diet and exercise. I'm into fitness myself, and I think I could help him if he wants to lose weight.
The biggest issue is that this guy seems to want a lot of control and influence over my boyfriend's decisions. My boyfriend once told me he'd block him, but he still keeps in touch with him.
I'm not trying to control who my boyfriend is friends with. But the combination of money, gifts, constant influence, criticism, and discouraging relationships feels strange to me.
Am I overthinking this, or would you also find this friendship concerning?
Wtf 🤣 are you sure he's not your boyfriend's sugar daddy?
Well, if your boyfriend gets face surgery because another guy told him to, it's clear he really does what that guy says. That would be pretty definite proof.
If what you're saying is true, that sounds really scary
So this Filipina wants us to believe she's dating a broke, fat foreigner who's so socially inept that his best friend is an online stranger he's never met or even seen? This has to be a fake story. Even if OP were only with the foreigner for the money, it's the stranger's money, so she wouldn't go online complaining about him...
I get why, but your post is entirely about the man trying to control your boyfriend, not about the fact that your boyfriend is letting it happen. I'd be more worried about your boyfriend's mental health and how easily he seems to be pressured.
