I honestly can't believe how much our electricity bill has gone up. 😩
We used to pay around ₱4,000 a month, but for the past two months the bill has been between ₱11,000 and ₱15,000. And it just keeps climbing. 😭
Our latest bill is ₱11,699 for 812 kWh. Compared to what we used to pay, the jump is honestly insane.
I knew electricity in the Philippines could be expensive, but watching the bill go from around ₱4K to over ₱11K–₱15K is a real shock. 😭
Living in the Philippines comes with plenty of surprises… but this electricity bill is one I definitely didn't see coming. 😂
Please compare the previous kWh with the recent one.. I saw a post from someone with the same issue, and it later turned out Noreco had made a mistake — when they checked their meter, it didn't match what the Noreco staff put on the bill. They went to the office, got it fixed, and paid only about 4k instead of 8k.. just sharing in case it helps.
That's 14 pesos per kWh. Not an outrageous rate.
I hope people learn from this and start including a good amount of trees in the landscaping when they build a house, to cut the heat and the ridiculous surging electricity rates being manipulated by the greedy rich. Tree shade and investing in solar panels are the key.
The worst service in the world, and the most expensive...
Speaking from an electrical perspective, and as someone who advises a lot of companies in the Philippines on solar/battery installs, the price is most likely down to the oil crisis (the Philippines mainly uses coal, but any imports are subject to taxes and transport costs) and outdated electrical infrastructure. That said, it doesn't mean utilities should be allowed to price-gouge. The other issue is just how outdated most of the country's electrical infrastructure is. I don't know about your specific area, but here consumption has gone up 140% in the last 2 years and no upgrades have been made to the existing network. The Philippines also uses a multi-grounded neutral, which is fine (kind of), but if your appliances aren't rated for 220 or 230V, it's inefficient. With Aboitiz, Meralco and VECO I've seen transmission losses as high as 17% due to aging wiring and transformers (there's more to it, but it's an endless rabbit hole of info most people don't find useful or understand). When you have 500 MW of production, the city demanding 490 MW, and 85 MW of transmission loss, you've got 415 MW available while the city wants more. I could go on and on, but from direct experience with these utilities I can say it's honestly not all greed on their part — a large part really is just outdated infrastructure.
Because nobody's doing anything to get Meralco checked. Those MFs have found the most flawless way to steal money — piling unexplained fee after fee on top of an already high kWh rate plus taxes, and we all just have to suck it up and pay. Corruption.
