How are things over there these days?
To the expats living in the Philippines right now, how are things? Is it getting a lot worse since Duterte?
Drunk people fighting in bars late at night. These things happen.
You can go to bars. Just never get drunk or drugged there.
Great news for Bohol's tourism industry 🤣
FAFO
The Philippines looks really dangerous.
Looks like the suspect is a 41-year-old man who hit him with a chair. The 41-year-old was arrested by the 'tourist police' first, so he might have been a foreigner. It's not really clear from the news article I read.
I wouldn't know, but getting into a bar fight usually isn't very smart. Then again, they'd still call it a 'bar fight' even if he was attacked completely one-sidedly. Plenty of cases like that I never would have come here before Duterte, because I always heard it was a lawless slum. Long-term expat friends told me it turned into a law-abiding slum practically overnight. So things have definitely gone backwards since his term ended. I go to Davao a lot, and people I know there miss him. They say you could walk around at any hour and feel completely safe while he was president. People say Mindanao is the most dangerous area, but I've lived here for years without any problems. It's definitely annoying how many places don't serve pork to cater to the Muslim population, but that's a small price for an overall amazing lifestyle. I've never been threatened with violence, but I know a few people who've gotten into fights. Gentlemanly brawls, though, so it all turned out fine in the end.
