I know I'm kind of going to stir up a hornet's nest, but I'm going to ask anyway. I've spent three summers in the Philippines and I'm moving there for good in mid-November. There are so many places to live that I don't know where to start. I do get disability, but I also do graphic work for a company in America. I'd love to live near the ocean because I love it, but the problem there is frequent power outages. I've spent a summer each in Dumaguete, Bacoor and Davao. I'd like suggestions from people who've actually lived there, not an AI voice on YouTube. Maybe I'm better off living near the ocean and buying a generator. Let me know some places, or even ideas. Tell me what you think.

Generator talk

With a generator and solar, is there any kind of power drop when a brownout hits? I'm thinking of bringing my desktop computers since I also work online, but I'll be renting, so installing solar isn't on my list ....

Iloilo. Clean, modern, safe. Good health care. A great hub for traveling all over Asia.

Solar is the answer

I've had solar for the last couple of years. Rolling blackouts just started, and I haven't had to deal with them. Add Starlink (pricey by Philippine standards) and I'm completely independent when it comes to power and communication.

Or just Manila

Enjoy the beach. I'm not trying to change your mind. Digital nomads mostly live in Metro Manila: IT, software engineers, web marketing. I live in Eastwood, Quezon City. Power 24/7. Faster internet. No pollution. No traffic. Everything's walkable. No roosters. No late-night karaoke. No trash burning. No tricycles. No old-style jeepneys. No flooding. Eastwood is half the price of BGC since it's a bit older. But no beach. Nowhere near a beach. Enjoy your beach, and post in the group when you want to look into solar or generators. And no, your post won't stir up a hornet's nest... :-)
