I want to try living in the Philippines for a month
Hi hi! I'm a 24-year-old woman and I'd really like to find somewhere I can settle for a while.
Ideally near beaches, where I can go to the gym every day, walkable, safe, and maybe where I can buy groceries to cook at the apartment I'll be staying in.
I've heard about Panglao and Bantayan, but I'm not sure they're really the right areas.
What I want most:
-near a gym
-walkable, or Grab available (or other taxi companies)
-near a beach to relax
-safe for women
The area can be social or not, but I'd love to have some restaurants or bars around to enjoy now and then.
I'd appreciate any help, thank you!
Your options are: Boracay Siargao Elyu (La Union) Maybe Cebu Boracay: cozier, everything is between Station 1 and 3. No taxis, but it's mostly walkable (there are e-trikes if you get tired). Nightlife vibe: a mix of locals and foreigners. Siargao: you'll need to rent a scooter to get around outside the main area. Nightlife vibe: very Western, lots of young foreigners. Which bars/clubs are popular on a given night depends on where the foreigners decide to go, and they're like 70 to 80% foreigners (last time I went, anyway). Elyu: like a mini Boracay, a lot less to see but more of a city vibe. Nightlife vibe: not many foreigners when I went. Cebu: haven't been, but I imagine you'd have to make a trip to Moalboal.
Have you considered Thailand? Maybe Hua Hin. Ticks every box. Plus better infrastructure and food.
May I ask if you have a boyfriend, or someone familiar or somewhere safe to go to? And do you have an online job, or how do you plan to get by, visa included? Will you be on a tourist visa and extend up to 3 years? I encourage you to take this step at your age. It can and will be very rewarding if everything works out. Just make sure you have some kind of income, because the Philippines isn't particularly cheap if you want to enjoy life rather than live like the locals. Nothing wrong with living like a local, I'm just not sure you could adapt to that lifestyle, with the tabo and all.
Hello, I'm a Filipina born and raised here in Metro Manila. I highly suggest choosing a place that isn't too urbanized for your first week. Have fun
The places you mentioned won't fit what you're looking for. Try the places others have already mentioned.
